This article contains the best news I've heard in years about the progress toward a cure for Type 1 diabetes. Hooray for stem cell research! What a great idea to use the patient's own stem cells--no rejection issues. (The problem with beta cell transplants is that the patient trades one kind of life-threatening condition and lifelong medication for another.)
So far, it's only worked on newly diagnosed diabetics, who still have working beta cells. But it's a giant step in the right direction.
