In 1787 I'm Told

It's so nice to hear the word "principles" in a children's song. Here's an excerpt from the Schoolhouse Rock song that's been floating through my head all day:

In 1787 I'm told
Our founding fathers did agree
To write a list of principles
For keepin' people free.

The U.S.A. was just startin' out.
A whole brand-new country.
And so our people spelled it out
The things that we should be.

If only more people understood the meaning of that word! Happy Constitution Day, and may we be closer to getting back to those principles by this time next year. (Sadly, it's an election year, so I'm thinking not, but I'm not one to give up hope!)
